Cork Con FC 1st XV 20 - 12 Shannon RFC
Venue: Coonagh
Competition: Munster Senior Cup 1st Round
Match Report:

Cork Constitution defeated Shannon in the 1st Round of the re-drawn Munster Senior Cup at Coonagh on Saturday. The original fixtures were re-drawn due to the withdrawal of Thomond from the first schedule.

Constitution started last season’s PBC out-half, Aidan Moynihan, in the No.10 shirt, for his first senior outing, and he scored their opening points after 25 minutes. However, that was Constitution’s only score of the half, as Shannon had the better of the early exchanges and led 9-3 at the interval, from three penalties by out-half Conor Fitzgerald.

And Fitzgerald brought his side to 12-3 in the 56th minute. A yellow card for a high tackle by scrum half Jack Stafford in the 60th minute, dealt a severe blow to Shannon, as Constitution prop Vincent O’Brien scored a try in the next attack, and Moynihan’s conversion brought Con well into the play with 28 minutes remaining.

A penalty by Tomas Quinlan from 24 metres in the 72nd minute gave Constitution a one point lead, and a try in the corner by Quinlan in the 80th minute, which he converted, put a gloss on the final score line.

Constitution will be away to UCC, who defeated Cashel, in the second round scheduled for 21st October.
