We held our 11th Annual Business of Sport Lunch at the Maryborough Hotel on the 30th of January 2025.

The event was again kindly sponsored by Kearys Hyundai and was a full house, with a great atmosphere and the usual superb food.
The MC on the day was Ray Clarke, who got our president, Charlie Murphy, to open the event.
Donncha O’Callaghan was the interview host, with athlete Derval O’Rourke and Donal Lenihan as guests. Derval gave a fascinating insight into short-distance athletics at the Olympic and World Championship levels. A great example of the events could be seen in the Netflix series Sprint, where Derval recounted the rivalries and psychological side of competition. She described how the finalists would warm up on the same track, then spend 40 minutes together in the event room, followed by 90 seconds in the waiting tunnel. At this stage, many of the athletes had already lost the psychological battle.
Donncha and Derval shared other experiences, including their own rivalry in Ireland’s Fittest Family.
Donncha and Derval then invited Donal onto the stage, where he gave his own insights into what we could expect two days later in the first Six Nations match—Ireland vs. England at the Aviva. He also recalled his personal experiences in games he played against England in the 1980s, which was fascinating.
The event was a perfect blend of business and sport and left attendees inspired and energized by the experience.
