Cork Con FC J1 21-10 Midleton
Venue: Towns Park, MidletonCompetition: Munster Seconds League
Cork Constitution J1 XV kept their Seconds League ambitions on track with a win over Midleton at Towns Park, Midleton on Sunday. After the heavy rain of the previous days the pitch was very heavy and undoubtedly slowed the play considerably. Constitution made light of the conditions in the first half to lead 18-0 at the break. However, in the second period they had to withstand the strong challenge of the home side who scored two unconverted tries, before Con edged home with a late penalty.
Peter O’Sullivan took two early penalty chances to put Con 6-0 ahead after 15 minutes, before Billy Newman finished off a Rob Clune break that O’Sullivan converted. On the half hour Simon Hanbidge ran in a second score after a good break by Billy Newman.
Midleton started the second half strongly and left winger Luke McKeown scored on 48 minutes to close the gap. Constitution had a couple of players sin-binned mid-way in the half, and McKeown scored again on 65 minutes. However, Con weathered the storm after getting back to even numbers, and O’Sullivan kicked a late penalty for a final score of 21-10.
The win leaves Constitution in the lead on 26 points with three games remaining against Highfield (h), Sundays Well (h) and UCC (a).Referee:
