Cork Con FC 1st XV 27 - 0 Dublin University
Venue: College ParkCompetition: All Ireland League Div 1
Cork Constitution maintained their drive for All Ireland League honours with another clinical performance against Dublin University at College Park, as they coped with the dreadful conditions on Saturday. The wind was howling and the Trinity reporter opined that it was ridiculous to be playing in such conditions.
Constitution, with the somewhat doubtful benefit of those elements, took a twelve point lead in the first half from tries by Gerry Hurley and J.J.O’Neill. However, despite the scoreline, the Trinity website to which this reporter is indebted, suggested that the home side played all the rugby in that first half.
In the second period, as well as keeping the home side scoreless, which was a first for this season, they added fifteen points, from a second try by J.J.O’Neill and a penalty try, again unanswered, for a comfortable victory on the scoreboard, if nowhere else.
Constitution were the big winners at the weekend past, moving to 56 points after thirteen matches, and a twelve point lead in the table, with four matches remaining. Garryowen are the nearest challengers, though they lost ground when losing at home to Young Munster.
Next week, Constitution are at home to Terenure College, who will be in Cork for the second week in a row, having defeated UCC at the Mardyke on Saturday.Referee:
