Cork Con FC 1st XV 10 - 6 UCC
Venue: Mardyke
Competition: All Ireland League - Division 1
Match Report:

It was back to their origins as Cork Constitution met University College Cork at the Mardyke under lights on Friday evening. And after a fine contest, Constitution emerged with the spoils, but the home side also emerged with a deserved bonus point, as Constitutions winning margin was a mere four points.

Constitution got a fine start when Jonathan Wren stormed in for a try in the right corner in the 10th minute, following up on a grubber kick by scrum half Gerry Hurley. Jack Crowley converted from the touchline. However, College were never out of the contest, and fought back with two penalties by Johnny Poland on 25 and 40 minutes, the second of which had earned a yellow card for Constitution No.8 Evan Mintern, for 7-6 to Constitution at half time.

A penalty in the 58th minute by Jack Crowley pushed Constitution’s lead to 10-6. The play was well contested thereafter, but apart from a penalty chance in the last minute to College, which they elected to kick to the corner, and resulted in a fruitless dead ball, Constitution saw out the encounter to claim the four points.

The results puts Constitution on 25 points, ahead of the other weekend fixtures. Next Saturday they meet Ballynahinch at Templehill.
