Match Report:

Cork Constitution coasted into the Munster Junior Cup Final with a big win over Clonmel, whose recent endeavours in qualifying in the All-Ireland League series, proved a game too many. Constitution were always in control, leading 13-0 at the mid-point of the first period; 27-0 at the interval; 39-5 on the hour, and ran in four further tries in the final quarter.

Niall Finn kicked two penalties in the opening quarter for 6-0. Max Abbott scored the first try in the 26th minute, converted by Finn, as the home side ran the ball on every occasion in the pleasant sunshine. And they added two further tries from Barry Galvin and Greg Higgins before the break, both converted by Finn.

To their credit Clonmel scored in the second minute of the second period, with Conor Pearson touching down in the right corner. But Constitution scored next, scrum half Gary Bradley scored in the 61st minute, and Greg Higgins got his second on 66 minutes; with Finn converting both, for 46-5.

Greg Higgins scored his third try on 69 minutes, and second-row John O’Callaghan went over for try number eight on 71 minutes. Finn converted the first, while Higgins converted the second. 

Clonmel to their credit had the final say, with a try from Luke Noonan, converted by Alex Sheehan.

In the final. Constitution will meet Highfield, who defeated Cashel 29-3 in the other semi-final.
