Cork Con FC J1 31 - 6 Mallow RFC
Venue: Templehill
Competition: Munster Junior Cup 4th Round
Match Report:

Cork Constitution defeated a gallant Mallow team at Templehill on Monday evening, to advance to Round 5 of the Munster Junior Cup.

The first period was typical Cup fare with both sides showing their ambition, but the play was scoreless, until Joe Harrington squeezed in at the corner flag for the opening score after 19 minutes. Mallow hit back with a penalty on 23 minutes by James Glynn, but then he missed with a similar effort three minutes later. Constitution pack were well organised, and a drive to line from a line-out maul led to a try by Harry Murphy, which he converted for 12-3 at half time.

Two yellow cards in the opening five of the second period did not help Mallow’s cause, but they held their line intact, and when James Glynn landed a penalty on 56 minutes, perhaps a recovery was on the cards. However, an excellent move by the home side saw Jack Costigan cross for the third try – though unconverted - for 17-6 after 60 minutes.

And Constitution closed out the game with two late scores by Gary Bradley and Brendan Quinlan, both converted by Niall Finn, for a comprehensive win in the end.

In the 5th Round quarter-final, Constitution will be away to the winners of the Abbeyfeale / Newcastlewest who play on 10th March.
