Cork Constitution retained the Cork Charity Cup with a clear-cut victory in the Final with University College, played on the all-weather surface at Independent Park on Friday evening. They outscored the students by six tries to one, to retain the trophy for the tenth season in succession.
After a well-contested first forty minutes, Constitution led 15-7 at the interval. The opening score came from a well-controlled maul in the 22nd minute with Gary Duffy touching down. Aidan Moynihan’s conversion attempt struck a post, but he added a penalty on 28 minutes for 8-0. Constitution struck again in the 32nd minute with a try by Dylan Murphy following a series of mauls to the line. Moynihan converted for 15-0. However, College got on the score sheet just before the interval, with a try and conversion by James Taylor, for 15-7.
Moynihan kicked a penalty on 55 minutes, and in another maul to the line in the 67th minute, Cathal O’Flaherty touched down. Moynihan’s conversion left Constitution well in control. And two converted tries in the last ten minutes by Evan Mintern and Rob Jermyn emphasised their superiority.Referee:
