Cork Con FC 1st XV 14 - 12 University College Cork
Venue: Templehill
Competition: Crowley cep
Match Report:

The annual St Stephen’s Day encounter at Templehill between Cork Constitution and University College, commemorating Dermot ‘Starry’ Crowley, was played before a large holiday crowd in very temperate mild conditions. And despite trailing 0-7 at half-time, Constitution scored twice in the second period to claim the Crowley Cup.

College flanker Cian Barry scored the opening try in the 28th minute following a 5-metre scrum, to which Tom Kersey added the conversion, for the half time lead.

Constitution drew level in the 48th minute, when fast ruck delivery gave Tomas Quinlan the break to put full back Liam O’Connell in for a try, converted by Quinlan.

College scored a fine try with a counter attack from their own 22 metre line for Cillian Ansbro to finish. Kersey missed the conversion, but College led 7-12 after 54 minutes.

Constitution might have scored on the hour, but Jermyn was knocked off the ball. However, Max Abbot got the deciding score in the 66th minute, when he was at the end of a line-out drive to the line. And Quinlan’s conversion was the decisive score.

John Crowley was on hand to present the Crowley Cup, commemorating his father Dermot’s contribution to both clubs.
