Cork Con FC 1st XV 15 - 14 Clontarf
Venue: Castle Avenue
Competition: Ulster Bank League Division 1A
Match Report:

Cork Constitution scored a much-needed win over champions Clontarf at Castle Avenue, in round five of the Ulster Bank League on Saturday.

Fielding five changes from last week’s match-squad that drew with UCD, Constitution included two players, Shane Daly and John Poland, making their AIL debuts, who together with Liam O’Connell, Jason Higgins, Liam O’Connor, Brendan Quinlan and Rory Horgan, were all members of last season’s successful U20 XV.

So after five AIL games, Constitution have scored their first success, against arguably their toughest opponents, to add to the two previous draws with UCD and Lansdowne.

Constitution led 6-0 at half time from two Tomas Quinlan penalties. Clontarf had tries by Matt Darcy and Michael Noone, both converted by Joey Carbery, but Quinlan won the match for his side with three further penalties in the second half

Next Saturday, Constitution play Highfield in the first round of the Munster Senior Cup at Woodleigh Park, before the next UBL game at home to Ballynahinch on 31st October.
