Cork Con FC 1st XV 25 - 32 London-Irish
Venue: TemplehillCompetition: Senior Friendly
London-Irish were the visitors to Templehill on Saturday for the opening game of the season.
Olly Turner was the scoring hero for the visitors as the amateur club, who share their new facilities at Hazelwood in West London with their professional colleagues, were on a short tour of Ireland before beginning the new season.
Out-half Turner opened the scoring with a 3rd minute penalty for London-Irish. However, he missed with a similar opportunity in the 11th minute, before Luke Cahill put Constitution ahead with the first try of the game. Garret O’Suilleabhain added to Con’s lead in the 14th minute with a second try, but Turner closed the deficit with his second penalty to leave the half time score at 10-6 to the home side.
Luke Cahill scored his second try in the 52nd minute, again unconverted. Constitution’s busy debutant scrum half Andrew Dorgan scored a fine try in the 57th minute, converted by Darragh McNamara, for 25-11 to the home side.
However, London-Irish finished the stronger with three tries from Ed Fraher, Jack Harvey and Olly Turner, who also converted all three for victory.
It was a useful opening exercise for the home squad who face a second game on Sunday away to Cashel in last Season’s Cork Charity Cup final.Referee:
