Cork Con FC J1 7 -13 Clonmel
Venue: Temple HillCompetition: Munster Junior Cup Quarter-final
Cork Constitution’s MJC campaign ended in tame fashion at Temple Hill on Sunday afternoon when Clonmel proved too strong. After solid wins in the earlier rounds over Cobh Pirates and Tralee, Constitution could not find the extra gear to overcome a very compact Clonmel side.
Clonmel full back Conor Cooney gave his side a 25th minute lead, having missed an earlier chance. Clonmel had much the better of the first half exchanges, and it was somewhat against the run of play when Eoin O’Donnell scored a trade mark try in first half injury time. He sliced through the middle from half way and outpaced the defence for a fine try.
Gearoid O’Suilleabhain converted, but from the kick off Clonmel won possession and slick passing put left wing Luke Hogan in for a try. And Cooney converted for a 10-7 interval lead.
The second half was strangely subdued, with only a handful of penalty chances. Cooney converted one for 10-7 after 57 minutes. Thereafter, Clonmel continued to dominate and Constitution did not find that extra gear.Referee:
