Cork Con FC J1 15 - 10 Cashel
Venue: Temple HillCompetition: Seconds League
Cork Constitution won this Seconds League game played at the Lakelands venue on Sunday afternoon, but were fortunate in the extreme, as a very robust Cashel side with plenty of skill, could equally have taken the four points on offer in a tense final quarter.
Constitution had a narrow 10-7 lead at the interval from a 20th minute try by Philip O’Leary. It came when Con were pressing and awarded a penalty near the line. O’Leary took the quick penalty and made the line, with Cashel’s defence caught out of position. Brian Derham knocked over the conversion.
Cashel were level seven minutes later when wing Patrick O’Connor broke through to score at the posts, and McGlinchey made the easy conversion. But Constitution hit back to go ahead just before the break. When a Cashel front row forward was sin-binned, Derham kicked the penalty.
Cashel drew level again on the hour mark from a McGlinchey penalty, and that set up a fine last quarter, as both sides vied for the lead. In the end Brian Derham broke the deadlock with a try in the right corner in the final minute. He missed the conversion, but Con had done enough for the win.Referee:
