Cork Con FC 1st XV 13 - 17 Cashel
Venue: Cashel
Competition: Cork Charity Cup
Match Report:

Cashel outscored Cork Constitution by three tries to one with a strong second half performance in their first appearance as a senior club after gaining promotion to the All Ireland League last season.

Constitution led 13-0 five minutes into the second period but their inexperienced side failed to contain the home side as they took their try scoring chances well. Constitution had just five of the side that lost to Old Belvedere in the AIL final in May and gave senior debuts to eight players and a further four via the rolling substitute system.

Gerry Hurley, who had played for Munster ‘A’ on Friday, opened the scoring with two penalties in a first half in which Constitution had plenty of possession but lacked the teamwork to trouble the home defence. Playing into the wind in the second period, Cathal Quinn scored an opportunist try in the 45th minute and Hurley added the points for 13-0. However Cashel, with Ed Leamy showing good form, hit back in the 52nd minute with a try. Six minutes later Cashel worked a try in the corner by Conor Quinlan from a 5 metre scrum. Donagh O’Brien kicked the conversion and the same player scored the decisive try in the 65th minute.
