Venue: Model Farm Road
Date: 24/09/2017
Referee: C.Galvin MAR
Report:

Cork Constitution defeated a gallant Mallow outfit to claim the Dennehy Cup for the 3rd season in succession. While they trailed 3-5 at the interval, they picked up the pace in the second period, took the lead in the 50th minute, and never eased up to the end.

The early stages were well-contested and each side endured a sin-binning, before Robin O’Flynn gave Constitution the lead with a penalty from 24 metres in the 34th minute. However, Mallow struck just before the interval when wing forward Tim Fitzgerald got the touch-down following a scrum near the line. The conversion was missed, but Mallow had the half time lead 3-5.

Constitution started the second period in determined fashion, and a strong run by centre Eoin Murphy led to a penalty, duly converted by Simon Barry for the lead 6-5. O’Flynn then missed a couple of penalty chances, before Constitution scored the decisive try; Simon Barry touched down following a break by scrum half Dave Hayes from 30 metres. Robin O’Flynn kicked the conversion, and added a penalty in the 72nd minute to seal the victory.

Highfield President, Dom Holly, and Brian Dennehy, were on hand to make the presentation of the Dennehy Cup to Constitution captain, Eoin Derham.

Report:

Cork Constitution Junior 2 XV completed the round robin series of the Junior 2 League at Templehill on Friday evening, with a clear-cut win against Bandon, to claim the Junior 2 South League trophy.

Bandon took an early lead with a 5th minute penalty by Aidan Sheehan. But Constitution hit back, to take the lead with a 13th minute try by James Tyner in the right corner that was expertly converted by Simon Barry. Bandon scored an unconverted try in the 26th minute to keep the game alive. But Constitution took the half time honours with a second try by James Tyner in the 31st minute, following a break from the 22 metre line. The try was unconverted, as Constitution led 12-8 at the break.

And Constitution stretched their lead in the 53rd minute with a third try, touched down by Robin O’Flynn, following fast ruck ball by the pack. Barry’s conversion brought the score to 19-8. Within minutes Constitution repeated the score with O’Flynn again the scorer, and Constitution closed out an emphatic victory with a try in the 70th minute by Luke Abbott, with Simon Barry adding the conversion for good measure.

South Munster Branch representative, Padraig Higgins, was on hand to present the Junior 2 League trophy to skipper Cormac Fouhy, his second trophy this season, having won the Dennehy Cup in September.

Venue: Templehill

Referee: S.Tydings MAR
Report:

Cork Constitution defeated Highfield by the narrowest margin in the third game of the Junior 2 League Phase 2, under lights at a rain-sodden Temple Hill on Friday evening.

No.8 George French gave Highfield a great start with a 5th minute unconverted try. However, Constitution hit back immediately with a penalty on 8 minutes by Simon Barry; and Barry kicked a second penalty on 20 minutes for the half-time lead at 6-5.

The weather deteriorated in the second period, as heavy rain made the conditions very difficult for continuity. And scoring chances were thus limited to a 51st penalty by Darragh O’Keeffe for Highfield, and a third penalty for Constitution by Robin O’Flynn that proved to be the winning points.
