Competition: Junior 2 Cup Final
J2 V Bandon
Score: 12 - 7 (Con score given first)
Venue: Irish Independent Park
Date: 19/04/2018
Referee: K.Pennefeather MAR
Report:

Cork Constitution defeated Bandon at Independent Park on Thursday evening to claim the Junior 2 Cup.

Constitution opened strongly on the pristine main pitch, and took the lead after 5 minutes when Kieran Kelleher was at the end of a driving maul to the line. The try was unconverted; Constitution led 5-0. Bandon were well in the game throughout the period, but there was no further score to half-time.

Bandon had a player sin-binned at the start of the second period, and before he returned Constitution pounced for a second try when Phillip O’Shea crossed in the 49th minute. Robin O’Flynn converted for 12-0.

Bandon continued to press for a score, and only a timely clearance by Gavin Fitzgerald saved the Constitution line on the hour. And took until the final minutes before they finally crossed the line, when wing Andrew Willis scored. Luke Fleming converted for 12-7, but it was too little too late for the West Cork side.

The Cup was presented to Constitution captain, Cormac Fouhy, and medals to his team.

Next Sunday, they will face Old Crescent at Templehill in the Munster J2 League Final with kick-off at 1.00pm.

Report:

Cork Constitution defeated Dunmanway on Sunday morning at Templehill, in their second J2 League play-off game.  They trailed 10-11 at the mid-point, but pulled away for a narrow win against the gallant west-Cork side.

Eoin Derham opened the scoring for the home side with a try after 15 minutes, converted by Robin O’Flynn for 7-0; however, Daragh McCarthy kicked a penalty for Dunmanway within  a few minutes.

Robin O’Flynn added to the home sides lead with a penalty on 22 minutes, but Dunmanway again hit back immediately with a try by James Sanders; and Daragh McCarthy kicked a penalty in the 35th minute to give the visitors a one-point lead 10-11 at the interval.

Kieran Kelleher restored Constitution’s hopes with an unconverted try in the 50th minute for 15-11; and when centre Dan Lucey scored in the 60th minute, converted by O’Flynn, Constitution looked comfortable at 22-11. However, they had to endure a spirited effort by the visitors that yielded a 75th try by Liam Rice, converted by McCarthy; but home side held out for a narrow victory.

It was Constitution’s second play-off victory after last week’s win over Highfield. Next up is a home tie with Dolphin

Report:

Cork Constitution defeated Highfield on Sunday morning at Templehill, in the first J2 League Play-off match. They led 7-0 after a strong first half performance had set the pattern, and added a penalty on the re-start to consolidate the lead.

A Highfield player was yellow-carded in the 20th minute, and while he was in the sin-bin, the home side scored a decisive try. And it was the opportunism of scrum-half Dave Hayes who capitalised following a scrum near the line. Robin O’Flynn converted for 7-0 at half-time.

Dave Hayes kicked a penalty in the 45th minute for 10-0, and while Constitution were on top to the end, they did not add to the score line.
