Cork Constitution and Young Munster meet in the All-Ireland League at Templehill on Saturday for the first match of the second round, however it will be the third meeting over the year-end period.
Constitution won the first All-Ireland League meeting at Greenfields on Dec.14 by the narrowest margin, when late penalties by Gerry Hurley and Jack Crowley gained Constitution a somewhat fortunate 16-15 victory. That was Constitution’s ninth win from nine games, and gave them a nine point advantage over their nearest challengers UCD.
The Munster Cup Final followed the week after at Irish Independent Park, when Constitution won 21-10 to take their 26th Munster Senior Cup title. Last week, Constitution travelled to Sligo for the Bateman Cup semi –final which they won 38-10 against the 3rd Division side.
Young Munster are currently seventh in the AIL table, but are some 19 points off the pace, from three wins and a draw from their nine matches.
The J1 XV also meet Young Munster in the Seconds League at Templehill with kick-off at 4.30pm. Constitution are currently second in the table, four points behind Garryowen after six matches each. This will be the first game of the second round of matches.
