Peter O’Mahony to be Lions Captain V Maori All Blacks

Peter started his rugby career in Con in the U7 team ... Coached by his father John. He went on to play senior with Con in several AIL campaigns before transitioning to Munster. In 2010 Peter was a key contributor to the Con team that won the AIL campaign ... Including appearing on the wing in the semi-final because of a raft of injuries in the squad.

Peter is still very involved with the club and was presented with a silver salver to mark his Lions selection, on the eve of the tour by Donal Lenihan, at the Cork Con 125th Anniversary Dinner in May.

Several other Con players have Captained the Lions including Donal Lenihan, Donncha O'Callaghan and Ronan O'Gara. Tommy Kiernan was the last and only Con captain of a Lions test team ... as tour captain to South Africa in 1968. The last and only Lions team to beat the All Blacks in Eden Park was captained by an Irishman - Ronnie Dawson in 1959 - and included another Con legend, Noel Murphy playing at 7 that day.
